CHS Happenings From the Principal's Office CHS Staff is excited to welcome all Bulldogs back for the start of the ‘25-’26 school year! We spent our professional development days leading up to school learning how Artificial Intelligence can support efficiencies for staff and creating a plan for continued training and piloting of student use of AI as we move through the school year. In addition, we reviewed our continuing and new commitments for the year tied to our District Strategic Plan around Instruction, Student Well-being and Parent/Community Engagement. This monthly newsletter will:  Update you on our goals and progress Introduce you to our programs, services, systems and staff Provide you with reminders on important school events Showcase Bulldogs in our community shining in the classroom, extracurriculars and the community. From the Dean's Office Mrs. Carlson and Mr. Groce are thrilled to kick off the new school year as your new Deans of Students! You’ll see them around campus—in the hallways, the parking lot, at games and events, and even in classrooms—teaching and helping make CHS a great place to learn and grow. A quick reminder for lunch off-campus: If you're heading out during lunch, please make sure to return on time. Plan ahead for possible delays like trains or traffic—these are not valid excuses for being late to class. Being punctual shows respect for your teachers and classmates. 9th graders are not allowed to leave during lunch.  We care deeply about our CHS students. Sometimes that means addressing behavior when needed, but it always comes from a place of wanting the best for you. We’re here to support your success every step of the way. And a shoutout to our students: You've been doing an awesome job putting phones away and staying focused during instruction. Whether it's resisting the pull of social media or games like Clash Royale 😉, your efforts are making a difference. Keep it up! From the School Counselors College Planning Night is September 24 at 6:00 pm in the CHS Commons. This event is specific for 11th and 12th grade parents and students wanting to learn about how to apply for college. Department/CTE Program Spotlight The Career and Technical Education Programs at CHS have been buzzing with activities all summer long! Students continued their CTE successes throughout the summer competing at the national level in various organizations. Wyatt Nelson and Mr. Kert spent a week in Anaheim, CA competing in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) while Kate Croci, Emily Swanson and Mrs. Swanson traveled to Orlando, FL for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) Nationals. Students in FFA worked diligently all summer raising pigs, goats and sheep and are gearing up for a busy and rewarding week at the Chelan County Fair. Agriculture Education: Animal Production Science, Ag Science and Ag Mechanics are all off to a great start. Nearly 70 FFA students will be showing livestock this week at the Chelan County Fair. Mr. Finch and Mr. Odenrider are setting the bar high in each of their classes and extended learning opportunities to kick off the school year. Business & Marketing Education: Students are learning the school store (Mr. G’s) point of sale system under the direction of Mr. Eygabroad, our new business and marketing teacher. Personal Finance and Computer Coding students are also gearing up for a great semester of learning with Mr. Kert. Family and Consumer Sciences Education: Early Childhood Education students are also off to a great start this school year. Students are focusing on characteristics of quality educators and role modeling and will begin their experience working in Vale Elementary classrooms next week. Personal Choices students are “moving in” to Swansonville, a living on your own simulation, under the direction of Mrs. Swanson Health Sciences: Mr. Mongeon has a full class of Sports Medicine students, eager to learn proper injury prevention and recovery techniques. Ninth graders are already into learning about the body systems in their Health class. Students are learning anatomy and physiology, along with practical skills on keeping their physical body healthy, taught by Ms. Story, our new health sciences teacher. Skilled & Technical Sciences: Students in construction are in their first week of being trained and prepped on safety protocols in the shop. They’ll be constructing and building their first projects soon. Mr. Stewart is also leading students in robotics and engineering design this semester. Employability Matters! In all CTE programs at CHS, employability will be an important factor of student grades. Our goal is to provide students with a learning environment that prepares them for life after high school. Employability is part of 21st Century Skills and Leadership Development. All CTE students are expected to show up on time, stay on task and treat the classroom like it’s their workplace! CHS Learning with AI CHS staff spent two days of professional development in late August learning about efficiencies that can support their instruction through the AI tools in Magic School. This secure district AI platform offers teachers and students potential support in teaching and learning with teacher controls that ensure responsible use. We will spend quarter one as a staff learning about these tools for teaching and learning, and pilot use with students in a few classes. Know that we are taking our time developing clear expectations for responsible use with adults and students alike, and that our North Star is ensuring that students graduate with skills and habits of mind that support their continued success beyond CHS where we know responsible use of AI will be a critical skill. We will update you monthly via this newsletter as we lay the foundations for responsible use of this tool in our school. Students' Spotlight  A message for freshmen from ASB President Eliana Thomas: You’re at a pivotal moment in your life, transitioning into young adulthood and gaining new freedoms. You'll discover more about yourself and how those around you influence your journey. Here are three key insights I wish I had when starting high school: Not everyone needs to be your friend. As a people pleaser, I tried to please everyone in my freshman year, which was exhausting. It's impossible to make everyone like you. Focus on being kind to everyone, but don’t stress about winning everyone’s approval. You can explore different interests each year. Freshman year is just the beginning; you’re never stuck! Get involved in various activities to discover what makes you happy. Changing your path is perfectly fine. Change is natural—for you and your friends. As you grow, your interests and friendships may shift. This can be hard, but it’s a chance to find those who truly support you and help you uncover your talents. While losing some friends may be sad, you’ll also gain new ones who resonate with who you are becoming. Clubs/Programs Spotlight Yearbook - The school year has just started but there are two critical deadlines that merit your attention. October 3rd is the deadline for purchasing your yearbook for the discounted price of $50 Senior photos are due November 3rd. Your photographer will need to know your deadline to ensure delivery. From the School Nurse This year we are asking you to complete our student health form via Google Forms. We hope this makes it easier for you to communicate your student’s medical needs in a timely manner. September Parent Newsletter

CHS is off to a great school year!  We welcomed the Class of 2028 on August 26th and provided them with a tour using their schedules, Chromebook checkout, and Extracurricular Fair to connect them to Bulldog sports and activities, and a chance to spend time with their assigned Peer Mentors.  The Class of 2025 paraded from Riverside park to start our first day of school, and our ASB Officers and Leadership Class coordinated a great pep assembly to introduce faculty and student leadership, and to set a positive tone for our school year.

I'm so proud of the investment by students and staff in building relationships that translate into high levels of engagement in learning and school activities.  Like last year, our staff is working collaboratively with student leadership to set building goals around Attendance, Tardies and Academic Performance.  Students identified a "20 minute extended lunch" as their ideal reward for meeting our monthly goals.  See these targets below:

Attendance - >92%    Tardies - <10/day    Academic Performance <15% of students with an F

From the Main Office:

Last Wednesday, your students received important district paperwork that requires your attention and signatures.  Student Health Information Form, McKinney-Vento Form for housing support, and School Lunch Program information all went home with your high school student.  We are asking for these forms to be returned by Friday, Sept. 13th.

If you think your student may qualify for free/reduced meals, it is worth it to apply now, even if they aren't eating at school.  The number of students who qualify for F/R in each district helps fund our food service and other programs.  Additionally, students who qualify for F/R in 7th or 8th grade - or newly qualify in 9^th grade - are automatically enrolled in the College Bound Scholarship, a promise of " free public college tuition, or an equivalent amount for an approved private college or career school. CHS School Improvement Plan Goals

Like our District Strategic Plan, CHS sets goals around Quality Instructional Practices, Student Wellbeing and Belonging & Parent & Community Engagement.  We will be reviewing goals established during professional development days with our Student Leadership Team in September, and sharing our finalized School Improvement Plan with the School Board in October.  See an overview of our goals in each area below:

Instruction 

    - Supporting students for whom language is an obstacle for learning, particularly our                       Multilingual Learners

Our staff defines RIGOR as "Providing CHS students with the resources, strategies and opportunities for deeper understanding"

El miércoles pasado, sus estudiantes recibieron importantes documentos del distrito que requieren su atención y firmas. El Formulario de Información de Salud del Estudiante, el Formulario McKinney-Vento para apoyo de vivienda y la información del Programa de Almuerzo Escolar fueron enviados a casa con su estudiante de secundaria. Solicitamos que estos formularios sean devueltos antes del viernes 13 de septiembre.

March Newsletter

From the Principal's Office:

This week we begin to finalize our year-long accreditation process.  Accreditation provides us a formal opportunity to gather feedback from stakeholders on our service and present our School Improvement Goals to trained educators who provide us feedback on our priorities in Instruction, Student Belonging and Wellbeing, and Parent & Community Engagement.  Find our Executive Summary on our work linked below.  We value the opportunity to reflect on our systems and goals, and welcome any feedback from all invested in the growth of our students.

From the Counselor's Office:

Counselor Mrs Semanko visited Mrs Swanson's Personal Choices classes to discuss real-life "roommate scenarios," and brainstorm how to address them and who to go to for support.

She also worked with these students on a Career Interest Survey using a "Where Are YOU Going" workbook.

Future Freshman Parent Night was well attended on March 7.  Our Future Bulldogs learned about classes and clubs available to them in grade 9 and beyond.

Next Week is Career Week at CHS!

The week of March 18 – 22 is the CHS Annual Career Week. Daily trivia contests will be held highlighting students’ knowledge of careers.

Monday, March 18

• Pipkin Construction will be meeting with seniors who are interested in a career in construction. Any seniors please sign up on the guidance office window.

Thursday, March 21 is College or Career Shirt Day. 

• Students are encouraged to wear shirts highlighting options for their college/career path.
• Mini Career Expo with lunch time visitors from local colleges and community organizations hiring for summer jobs. (Crunch Pak, Cashmere Swimming Pool, OIC…)
  
  
  

Friday, March 22 is Career Day

• speakers and student activities from 8:00 – 10:00 am (Students-please be early as speakers begin at 8:00 am).
• Dress for Success Day. Students are encouraged to wear Game Day or Interview Dress to participate in our career day.

Advisory

• 9-11th graders will be starting their resumes during advisory time in March. We will be using the WOIS Platform with the goal of creating a basic resume ready to help students prepare to apply for summer jobs. 
• Students will also be signing up to hear career day speakers. It is our goal to have students attend 3 workshops to learn more about exciting career paths. (Parents-please ask your students about the speakers they attended. For many students this is a significant day in planning for their future).

Extracurricular News:

This Spring 286 of our 518 students tried out for Spring Sports!  We currently have 315 of our 518 students.  We know that a sense of belonging and school engagement is connected to extracurricular activity participation.  I'm grateful to our many Parent Groups, Coaches and Advisors who support student involvement in Clubs, Organizations and Teams.

February Newsletter

 From the Principal's Office:

During Semester 1 our school community established goals around attendance, tardies and academic success and part of our School Improvement Plan.  Each month of the semester we monitored our progress, encouraged each other, and created accountabilities that we hoped would translate into success.  Our Student Leadership Team created an incentive if we met our goals, and we have!  Next Thursday, February 15th, our students earned an extended lunch.  This incentive can be earned each month if we meet our targets.  See below our data closing out Semester 1.  We are particularly encouraged by the performance of our freshmen class.  93% of our 146 freshmen passed all their classes!  Of course, the goal is that 100% of our students are successful in their courses, and we need your support to help make that happen.  We will continue with these goals in Semester 2, with the added goals for performance in our state testing in Math, Literacy and Science.

From the Guidance Office:

8th Grade Parents and Students - Please join us in the Cashmere High School Community Center on Thursday March 7th at 6-7pm for Future Freshman Parent Night.  You will learn about 9th grade course options, the sequence of classes in core subject areas for grades 9-12, graduation requirements and more!

College Options In High School Parent Event will be  Thursday, March 7^thfrom 7:00-8:00 pm in the CHS Commons.

We will be learning about College In The High School Programs, Dual Credit Classes and Running Start.  Plan to learn about great options through EWU, CWU, WVC and the UW.

Seniors love scholarships!

Many of our local scholarships are due on March 1^st.  Students-check the scholarship board, CHS Guidance Webpage or stop in the guidance office to learn more.

Students need parents financial information and letters of recommendations to apply.  Money is waiting…don’t miss out.

• Please come out and support Unified Basketball's debut at 6pm on Tuesday, 2/20 at CHS.  This program needs all our community support!  We are grateful to Wendy Tankersely and Jeff Carlson for spearheading CHS involvement in Unified Sports and excited to see our students at play supporting each other on the court.  Unified Basketball pairs differently abled students with peer partners to compete and experience the joy of competition and the camraderie that comes with being a part of a team.  Please come out and cheer our team on!

I met with our Student Leadership Team and our Building Leadership Team in November to celebrate our Schoolwide Data Points (below) and discuss how we could get our student body involved and invested in these goals.   Students were excited about the idea of earning an "Extended Lunch" in December if we met our goals.

As we move toward the Holiday Break, it's critical that students set academic goals leading up to vacation aligned to our building goals.  We have 6 weeks left in the semester and being in school, on time to class and producing and submitting quality work.

Only 7 Seconds - In November we hosted an assembly by "Only 7 Seconds", a local organization committed to addressing feelings of lonliness that often precede or deepen depression.  The message that "You are not alone" is fundamental to our school community and our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging in our student body.  We are extending the learning from the assembly in advisory during December, towards a Connection Challenge going into the holidays in support school community and student wellness.

 College Application Season

This fall we had 119 students meet with recruiters from 8 different colleges as well as 2 different technical programs and 2 branches of the military. The college recruiter visits have ended as seniors are now completing college applications.  Students please watch your application due dates list as each college has their own deadlines.

 

Scholarship Season is fast approaching.  The Cashmere Schools Foundation and North Central Washington Community Foundation Scholarship applications go live on January 1^st.  Students can prepare now by having their letters of recommendation requested and their activity logs complete.  Any questions, see Ms. Fall in the Guidance Office.

FAFSA Fridays….

Seniors are invited to the Guidance Office on Fridays in December to create your FAFSA login.

The FAFSA application has not opened but students and parents can prepare by creating their log in ahead of time.

Stop by between 7:30 and 8:00 am….join the festive FAFSA festivities.

From our Career & Technical Programs

Our TSA - Technology Student Association is growing!  Mr. Stewart, our Construction Technology Teacher, held our first Chapter meeting in November.  TSA chapter members work on competitive events, learn and apply leadership skills, and may attend conferences at the state, regional, and national levels. TSA chapters also are committed to a national service project and are among the most service-oriented groups in the community.  Contact Mr. Stewart at jstewart@cashmere.wednet.edu for more information on TSA opportunities.

Wednesday, Dec. 6th 7-8pm@  CMS - Superintendent Glenn Johnson will lead an informational presentation on our upcoming levy.  The event will include a slide deck and question and answer period.  We hope you will attend this important community event!

Thursday, Dec. 7th, 6pm @ Vale Elementary - First Aid & CPR training for all community members.  This is the first of four Community Events hosted by Cashmere School District.  Join us to train and receive Certification Cards in First Aid & CPR sponsored by Ballard Ambulance.

Me reuni con el liderazco estudiantil y el liderazco escolar en noviembre para celebrar las metas escolares y puntos de dato que informan nuestro trabajo en la escuela y discutir como pordriamos involucrar los estudiantes en nuestras metas. Se animaron los estudiante en la idea de ganar un almuerzo extendido en diciembre si logramos las metas.

Porque se acercan las vacaciones de navidad, es importantísimo que hagamos metas académicas en las ultimas 6 semanas del semestre.  Necesitamos que sus estudiantes estén presentes, a tiempo, y produciendo tareas y materias de calidad.

"Solo 7 Segundos"  - En noviembre, invitamos para una reunion escolar a "Solo 7 Segundos" una organizacion local dedicado a enfrentar sentiments de tristesa y Soledad questions siguen con la depression.  El mensaje questions no estas solo es fundamental a Nuestra escuela y Nuestra meta que todos sienten parte de Nuestra comunidad. Continuamos con esta instrucción en las clases de aviso y vamos a hacer un reto de coneccion  sobre las vacaciones.

Estacion de Cumplir Aplicaciones de universidad

Este otoño 119 estudiantes se reunieron con representantes de 8 universidades diferentes, 2 escuelas técnicas, y 2 ramas militares.  Ahora es tiempo de cumplir las aplicaciones de universidad.  Guarden las fechas de entrega de las aplicaciones para las escuelas donde intentan ir.

Ya viene la estacion de becas! Aplicaciones para las becas de Cashmere Schools Foundation y North Central Washington Community Foundation (dos organizaciones que regalan mucho a nuestros estudiantes) abren el primero de enero!  Es importante que estudiantes les piden cartas de recomendación al los maestros, entrenadores or jefes de trabajo en preparación para estas aplicaciones.  Si tienen preguntas, hablen con Sra Fall or Sr. Theiss.

Viernes de FAFSA

Les invitamos a todos los seniors a venir a la oficina de las consejeras los viernes en diciembre para trabajar en los documentos de apoyo finacial.  Estamos abiertos para ayudare por las mañanas entre las 7:30-8:00.

De nuestras Programas de Careras y Técnicas

Crece nuestra programa de TSA - El Sr. Steward, nuestro maestro de tecnología de construcción, se reunió con estudiantes interesados en noviembre.  Este club trabaja en eventos competitivos, aprenden y aplican abilidades del liderazco, y asisten conferencias a los niveles estatales y nacionales. También cumplen servicios de comunidad.  Contacte al Sr. Stewart en jstewart@cashmere.wednet.edu por mas información.

Fechas Importantes de la semana proxima!

Miercoles, Dec. 6th 7-8pm@  CMS - Superintendent Glenn Johnson presenta information sober el levy (impuestos escolares) en que pueden votar en el ano nuevo.  Habra una presentación y oportunidad para hacer preguntas.

Jueves Dec. 7th, 6pm @ Vale Elementary - Entrenamiento de First Aid & CPR  para todos los miembros de la comunidad - gratis! Este es el primero de cuatro presentaciones para la comunidad organized por el distrito escolar  Recibirán el certificado de First Aid y CPR gracias a Ballard Ambulance.

Que Tiempo Hace? - Es important que pongan atencion a los noticieros sober la clima y el impacto al dia escolar.  Classtag, Facebook y la radio seran los medios de comunicacion.
