October Newsletter

From The Principal's Office: We're off and running in the new school year!  As student leaders and faculty we set specific goals for the start of the year, and our shared efforts are translating into outcomes.

• Improved attendance and tardy data for all grade levels.  Students are responding to a shared commitment to getting to class on time to take best advantage of instructional minutes.  
• Our attendance rate in September was 95%, comparable to our Sept attendance last year.  This number represents a goal for each month that we want to improve upon.  
• In September we averaged 7 tardies/day in the building.  This is down from 18 tardies/day in May.  Our goal is to get that number under 5 in October.
• Leadership Class kicked off the school year with a spirited assembly, and hosted an after-game Neon Dance that was well attended.  Peer Mentors encouraged their freshmen mentees to attend the game and dance, and the Class of 2027 was present in large numbers at both events.
• Student leadership in our clubs, sports teams and CTE organizations met with Mr. Mac on Tuesday, Sept. 26th to discuss the start of the school year and student goals for the year.  We will meet monthly to discuss school culture and how we can improve service to our students.

From SRO Mutch - During the last week of September SRO Mutch set up a parking challenging in the back corner of the lot.  The setup challenges drivers to back into parking spaces to set up safer departures. The majority of parking lot fender-benders happen when drivers are backing out of parking spaces.  SRO Mutch worked with Mr. Sykes Driver's Ed. Course and student volunteers to practice safe parking strategies.

• Submit your login number and password.  Contact CHS if you don't have it.

Community Service!  Students at CHS need a TOTAL of 24 Community Service hours to meet the graduation requirement.  Opportunities are posted daily on the guidance office windows, and service documentation forms are available on the pillar across from the guidance office.

WSU Recruiter Visit!  College recruiters have been visiting CHS during the month of September aswering questions about admission requirements, programs and opportunities for scholarships.  We had a great turnout for our visit from WSU!

From The Band Room:

CHS Band students have been working hard to prepare for this year’s musical events.  Our pep band has already performed at 3 home football games, and we are currently preparing our field show for our homecoming halftime performance.  Students have also been working hard on two of our annual state honor band auditions – WIBC and All-State.  Audition recordings are due this week, and results will be reported in late October.

From Career & Technical Education (CTE) Programs:

This month, Mrs. Swanson’s Personal Choices classes have been studying topics related to “adulting” and real-life!  Students simulate living in Swansonville -  Friday is payday, and students must record their “income” and “expenses.” Counselor Mrs. Semanko has visited the class to assist with Career Interest Surveys and going through “roommate scenarios” – ask your student how they would handle a challenge with their “roommate!”  Still to come in Swansonville are lessons on applying for jobs, mock interviews and more managing life with "roommates."

From the History Dept.

In our Freshman Civics classes we are working daily to prepare ALL student to pass The U.S. Citizenship Test at the end of the course!

From the English Dept.

Freshman are starting POETRY BOOTCAMP. Ask your students about this short, rigorous study of poetry.

De la Oficina del Director: Empezamos con ganas el ano escolar! Ambos el liderazgo estudiantil y los maestros hicimos metas que estamos trabajando para cumplir.

• Mejorar la asistencia de estudiantes y desarrollar sistemas para asegurar que estudiantes lleguen a tiempo a sus clases.
• Nuestra tasa de asistencia en septiembre fue igual a la tasa del ano pasado - 95%.  Sigamos trabajando para subir nuestra tasa a 100%.
• El promedio de tardes/dia en septiembre fue 7/dia.  Esto es un gran cambio que resulta de metas que iniciamos al principio del ano escolar.
• La Clase de Liderazco empezó el ano escolar con una reunion de animo, y un baile de neon después del primer partido de futbol americano.
• Los pares mentores alentaron a sus alumnos del primer ano a asistir al partido y el baile, y la clase de 2027 estuvo presente en gran numeros.
• El Liderazco estudiantil se reunio con Sr. Mac el 26 de Sept. para discutir como mejorar las cultura escolar y mejorar nuestro servicio a nuestros estudiantes.

Del SRO Mutch - Durante la ultima semana de septiembre, SRO Mutch organizo un desafío del parque.  Muchos de los accidentes de coche pasan cuando el coche esta retrasándose del lugar de estacionamiento. SRO Mutch trabajo con el Sr. Sykes y su clase de manejar para practicar métodos seguros de estacionarse.

Servicio Comunal!  Cada estudiante necesita cumplir 24 horas de servicio comunal como requisito de graduación. Anunciamos oportunidades cada dia en las ventanas de la oficina de consejeras, y hay formas de documentación al lado de la oficina.

Reclutadora de WSU nos visito!  Reclutadores de las universidades nos están visitado este verano para promover las programas y oportunidades de becas.  Muchos de los Bulldogs participaron en la visita.

Del Cuarto de la Banda -

La Banda de CHS se estan preparando para los varies eventos musicales del ano.  Nuestra Banda de animo ya tocaron en 3 partidos de futbol americano, y ahora se preparan para el partido de Homecoming. Tambien estan preparandose para las audiciones del estado.

De las Programas de Educación de Carreras Technicas - 

Este mes, La Clase de Personal Choice de la Sra. Swanson esta estudiando temas de preparaciones para ser adultos.  Los estudiantes viven en un pueblo imaginario, con trabajos y gastos de vida.  La Consejera Sra Semanko visito la clase para ayudarlos con encuestas de intereses profesionales.  Temas del mes incluyen: como aplicar por un trabajo, entrevistas, y como sobrevivir con compañeros de casa.

Del Departamento de Historia

las clases de Civics de primer ano estan preparándoselos para tomar el examen de ciudadania al final de la clase.

Del Departamento de Ingles -

Los estudiantes de primer ano estan empezando un campamento de entrenamiento en la poesía.  Pregúntale a su estudiante sobre este estudio breve y riguroso.
